So, you’ve got your blog up and going, but don’t have the visitors you hoped for?  Odds are if you’re not getting much traffic to your blog – you’re not getting good sales numbers either.  Maybe it’s time to give your blog a pep talk and consider a makeover.  If you’re not sure where you should start, this post is for you.

There’s a variety of strategies you can use to boost your blog traffic.  You want to utilize anything you can, that will give you the most exposure for each of your posts.  The following are steps to take and things to consider when initially writing your blog posts:

  • Identify a topic that is relevant and of interest to your readers
  • Select appropriate keywords for SEO (You can also use a plug-in)
  • Make sure you use relevant tags
  • Categorizing it will make it easy to locate in your blog
  • Use content that is useful and interesting
  • Publish it
  • Bookmark it
  • Submit to relevant blog sites such as Outbrain.com
  • Generate a discussion by responding to any comments
  • Locate other blogs with similar topics and post a comment with a backlink

Go to your admin panel and review how many people found your post, and more than likely read it.  You should also see which of your posts were the top posts over the others.  This is valuable information that can be used to determine which posts were most successful so you can steer your future blog articles in the same direction.

If another blogger gives you a trackback that is a sure sign you are on the right track!  A trackback is when your post is referenced by another blogger with a similar post. So be sure that you have trackbacks enabled on your site.  You may start getting instant traffic and aren’t sure where it’s coming from until you see the trackback.

Search engines take many things into consideration when rating your content.  One way they determine your ranking is by how many backlinks you have.  A great way to boost your post value is by working with other bloggers and linking back to each other’s posts or using trackbacks.

As simple as it may sound, write compelling headlines.  Statistics show that 8 out of 10 people will click to read your content if your headline is alluring.  It’s vital that your good headline is followed by quality content.  You don’t want your headline to reel them in only to leave them disappointed with second-rate content.

If you are still having an issue with increasing interest in your blog, try piggybacking on other popular blogs that have hit the front page of some tagging or news site.  This is done easily by commenting on their blog with a link back to your post.  Another way is by simply responding to an interesting article online with your own commentary and including a link back to their blog.  Next, you add a comment showing your own debatable viewpoint of the topic to get more readers by sharing your link.

It’s important that you be consistent when using these strategies.  If you keep using them you’ll see your blog traffic increase and will be on your way to success.  For more help driving traffic see Turbo Charge Traffic.
