To engage “finding your why”, it must be identified, nurtured, and executed.
In our previous article, How to Improve Self Discipline for a Better Business, we discovered the first step to a better business involves discipline and acknowledging a problem to address and conquer.
Here, another essential factor to consider involves your work style. Everyone is different, so recognizing that what works for one person may not work for you. That’s why it’s crucial to “finding your why” and your work style.
Know Your Work Style
Be true to who you are, how you work, and what your specific needs are. If you are trying to force yourself into a model of what a ‘disciplined’ worker looks like, using strategies that aren’t wired for your personality, it will never work.
Instead of trying to implement what you think sounds “right”, figure out how you work best. If you’re a night owl and like to sleep in, then do that. There is no reason you should try to force yourself into something that will ultimately cause you to be unproductive.
Perhaps you are working from home but need the external motivation of being in an office environment. Instead of spending each day in your PJs, consider going to a co-op office where you can rent and use your own space. Or maybe it could be as simple as putting on some distracting noises within your home and putting on your work clothes when you get up.
You also have to consider finding your why, you’re learning style because sometimes it can be as simple as all the productivity tools you’re using, which are targeting other types of learners.
If you are a visual learner, then audio reminders won’t give you any benefit. Instead, consider using a visual schedule through an app like ToDoist or DropTask. Ultimately, this step intends to identify who you are, how you work best, and your learning needs. If you are struggling to identify these things, consider taking a learning style test. There are plenty online or go about your day and take notes on when/what puts a block in your day.
